Every so often in women’s fashion spaces, someone would ask if there was a “ female Derek Guy”
People clearly wanted the same kind of guidance, but from a woman. I always found that question a little strange. Mainly, because I never experienced his advice as really male-specific.
Even when he talked about “menswear,” I automatically translated it to “womenswear”
I was hearing mostly a framework.
I’ve dipped in and out of a lot women fashion spaces and clothing is generally treated as:
- self-expression
- identity-building
- trend participation
- personal branding
So when people ask for a “female version,” many women read that as:
- Someone who explains how to look current
- Someone who helps refine a vibe
- Someone who translates trends into outfits
That’s closer to an influencer than what Derek does, and most of suggestions in the comments were influencers.
If you approach clothing as a language of signaling, then yes, you need a version tailored to your social category.
If you approach clothing as material, structure, and context, the framework is already neutral.
